NEW COMMITTEE 2019
FIRST GOLF CLUB COMMITTEE MEETING FOR 2019 – May 28
To keep all members informed, here is a summary of the outcomes of the discussions held at that meeting: The Chairman noted that, since its formation, the new Committee’s members have adopted their responsibilities with enthusiasm and efficiency. The Committee voted to decline Drummond golfs offer of a membership deal in favour of maintaining the very good relationships we enjoy with the Pro Shops at each course we play.
Treasurer Dennis reported on the numbers who have paid their membership, those who have not yet paid and those not renewing for 2019 It looks like the net 2019 membership will be around 76. Dennis also reported on the Club’s financials which are tracking to budget and remain in good health.
Handicapper Hodgy appears to be well across the handicapping formula and is handling the occasional opprobrium well.
Star Starter Don thanked Assistant Kym for her back up but is grappling with the age old problem of people pulling out of a game at the last minute without a valid reason. ProShops are getting tougher on holding us to the number booked to play, so the Committee supported Don’s discretion, under Club rules, to penalise these fold with the full green fee unless a replacement player is found.
Raffle Meister Margaret, ably supported by Maggie H, has delivered some very good night’s takes so far this year. We need Golf Club members to be there Friday nights to support the Club that supports us. There have been some complaints re the quality of the meat trays, so Margaret/Maggie will raise this issue with our supplier to seek an improvement.
Secretary Wendy advised that she is meeting the website developer this week to move the Golf Club website towards its activation.
Lengthy discussions were held re planning for the upcoming trip away to Nelson Bay in August. The Committee thanked Dennis for creating this great new platform last year and Vice Captain Thommo made some suggestions for positive embellishments to that platform. In July thommo will visit each course and the motel to finalise arrangements. We need to finalise numbers for both golf and accommodation prior to the end of June, so gt your name(s) down before the cut off.
Captain Bill tabled a discussion document re a perceived lack of fairness in our current handicapping system. High handicapped ladies can never win when a “B” or “C” or “D” grade player claims the Ladies award as well. His document advocated that every member, male or female, should play in the grade dictated by their handicap, not their gender. There was much discussion around this and the Committee resolved that until the next AGM, no player can claim awards in two grades. This applies to a hole event, a game day event and Club Championships. A full discussion paper regarding our grading system will be presented to members to consider and vote on at the next AGM.
